The south of Portugal is much more than the holiday resorts along the Algarve coastline. South of the Tagus river, the open, ample landscapes of the Alentejo are peppered with numerous cork-oaks or olive trees, while a few whitewashed houses stand on the hills. The inner Algarve is one of Portugal’s most deserted and less known regions but it’s very rich in old traditions and landmarks. Inland, the medieval castles are a testimony of past battles and old rivalries, but along the Atlantic coastline, deserted beaches stretching as far as the eye can see will bring back the memories of the great Portuguese explorers… In the south of Portugal, one can still appreciate the rich heritage left by the Arabs who inhabited these lands for more than five centuries and some villages will make visitors feel as if they were transported to a town somewhere in northern Africa. Here, time passes slowly following the rhythm of the land itself, so this trip will give travellers a unique opportunity to switch off from their busy lives, forget about the watch and enjoy a slower pace of life.
Accommodation for this trip will be in good quality campsites located in countryside areas, allowing the enjoyment of the local environment, right at the beginning of spring when nature bursts into life with magnificent colours!
